Lightning flashed as the hour of the battle drew closer. The small number of Saiyans gathered together to finalize their strategy. Their leader, an ambitious and powerful fighter named Vegeta, stood in the middle of the warriors. He was a tall Saiyan with brown hair and a goatee, and he wore a cape over his fur tunic.

Vegeta: Saiyans! Tonight, we fight against those who would herd us into the dust and shadows as though we were garbage. Tonight, we destroy those who would deem us “inferior,” and yet their fighting abilities are infinitely below our own. Tonight, we wrest dominion from those unfit to possess it, and we take this world, the one true Saiyan home!

The Saiyans cheered and proclaimed Vegeta to be their king, once the battle had been won. Vegeta returned to his seat by one of the campfires, and turned to the Saiyan on his right.

Vegeta: Tonight is the night we have anticipated Kale.
Kale: Yes milord. Tonight, for the first time in eight years, the planet’s moon will be full. Under the full moon, we Saiyans will unleash our full fury upon these pests. We, as Great Apes, will crush our opponents under our heels, if all goes well.
Vegeta: Yes, and once we have destroyed the Tuffles, we can use their technology to remove ourselves from these disgraceful desert dwellings. We will be utterly victorious!
Kale: So you say lord, but I have never been one to count the day as won until I see my foe fall before my own eyes. I would advise against overconfidence, for its venom is as deadly as Saiyan might.
Vegeta: Ever my counselor Kale, and ever a wise one at that; but tonight is not a night for debate. Soon the moon will be full, and the Tuffles will burn. The era of Saiyan rule is at hand Kale! I would have you by my side, as always.
Kale: And so shall I be, lord.
Vegeta: Now, my Saiyan brothers, we march on the Tuffle camp!

With that, the Saiyans flew from their camp, each awaiting the rising moon.


Kale awoke from his dreaming.
Kale: Lost in the past again, eh? How have I survived so long? The assault against the Tuffles was nearly two-hundred years ago, yet I am scarcely older than I was then. I only regret that I was not there when King Vegeta and the Royal Guard made their fateful stand against Freeza. They had no hope against his might, but they died a Saiyan’s death. Now, although the Saiyans are growing in number again, there are none with the ancient pride my comrades and I possessed.

With that, Kale put out his small fire and took to the sky, awaiting tomorrow’s rigorous training.
Kale had left the Earth behind, preferring his training to take place on the restored Saiyan home world of Vegeta.
Kale: It is still a mystery to me how our home world was re-made. I have heard many tales, and it seems that they heroes of Earth were involved. The son of our king, Prince Vegeta, had been there that day, as well as another unknown Saiyan called “Son Goku.” Whoever this “Goku” was, there was no conceivable way that he was stronger than the prince, Vegeta…….was there?

Kale had fought along side King Vegeta against the Tuffles. Vegeta was the strongest and most ambitious of the Saiyans in that battle, and his place as king was rightfully earned. It had been said that his son had surpassed him while still a boy, and if that was true then he was truly mighty indeed.
Kale: Hmph…No matter. The King and the Prince are both long dead, as well as this “Son Goku.” Now the Saiyans are only strong, but without pride. It’s sickening. A race fallen from nobility.
Kale rose and began his katas, just as he did every morning. He preferred training on New Vegeta. The new planet was the same as the world he had known years ago. It was hot and arid, and the gravity was ten times greater than the gravity on the Earth. Kale strapped large rocks to his shoulders and thighs and went for a run. He welcomed the pain in his muscles, for with that pain he would forge new strength, and with that strength Kale would drive a blade deep into the heart of the galaxy.

As Kale ran through the wilderness, he saw a young Saiyan fly over the mountains. Kale raised his chi, and soon the young warrior came over.
Kale: A little out of the way for you, isn’t it? You should go back to the city until you grow into your tail.
Saiyan: What?! Just who do you think you are anyway?! I’ll show you!

And that was what Kale had been waiting for: a new opponent, who was apparently very green when it came to combat. The Saiyan was strong, but there was no purpose or drive behind his strikes, and Kale countered them easily. With a kiai yell, Kale knocked the Saiyan to the ground.

Kale: That’s better. Got a name kid?
Jarvis: Name’s Jarvis. What’s it to ya?
Kale: Well…Jarvis, shall we train together here in this wilderness, or shall you make another less than successful attempt at killing me again?
Jarvis: Don’t talk so tough there, guy. I can take you down in no time flat ya know.
Kale: Surely you jest, boy. You are welcome to try. I shall even thank you if you succeed in ending my life, for I have always desired to seek after the mythical master Kaio-sama.
Jarvis: Why are ya talkin’ so funny, guy? You sound like you’re from olden times or somethin’. That just makes me wanna kill ya more.
Kale: You’re more correct than you know, boy. Very well then, come at me.

Jarvis lunged at Kale, but Kale merely side-stepped his sloppy kick. With a chop to the back of the head, Kale sent Jarvis crashing through a nearby rock.
Jarvis: What the hell was that?! No one moves that fast!
Kale: It appears that I just did, boy; and in truth, you have yet to see real speed.
Kale teleported behind the young Saiyan and kicked him into the air.
Kale: Now, try to attack me. Destroy the entire area if you must, but for heaven’s sake boy, don’t embarrass yourself again!
Jarvis powered up a large red chi blast and sent it hurling toward Kale.
Kale: I said don’t embarrass yourself again!
Kale had teleported out of the blast’s path and was standing beside Jarvis, powering up a wave of his own.
Kale: Learn to anticipate!
A rush of purple chi rocketed from Kale’s palm, engulfing his young opponent.
As the smoke cleared, Kale saw a battered Jarvis still holding up his guard. The poor boy was quivering as his numb arms slowly moved back to his sides. Kale smiled at the young lad’s perseverance and new-found drive.
Jarvis: I…I didn’t think an old vet like you would still have it in him.
Kale: That is your main weakness, boy. You underestimate your opponents. I am roughly only ten years your elder, but I am centuries your elder in experience. Learn from your match this day that any opponent can be much more than he appears, and more often than not, he is.
Jarvis: I will….sir, but now I think I am going to go heal up a bit.
Kale: As you wish. Farewell Jarvis.
Jarvis: Later guy!
With that Jarvis flew off, back to Vegeta City. Kale sighed. These young Saiyans had promise, but they needed training.
Or a catastrophe.
Kale was happy to provide both.
